DC Flight Restriction Zone Check

The same airspace restrictions that apply to manned aircraft also apply to unmanned aircraft, including drones. The Washington, DC region includes a Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) that covers key areas in and around the city, including sensitive landmarks and government facilities.

To operate legally within this airspace for aerial photography or video, a waiver must be submitted to and approved by the FAA. This approval process typically takes 2–4 weeks, depending on location and operational requirements.

Before moving forward, you can use the official airspace awareness tool below to determine whether your location falls within restricted or controlled airspace.
